The Pillars of Dominican Life

When Dominicans speak of the four pillars of Dominican life, we are referring to the foundational elements that, when integrated, form a truly supportive structure for living as Dominicans and expressing our mission.

Prayer

While our relationship with God is one that is alive each moment of the day, we set aside times and places for individual contemplative and communal liturgical prayer.

Community

Dominic purposefully gathered others to share the mission of preaching. Community life calls us to balance our zeal for bringing the good news to the world with sharing supportive love with each other in our journey of faith and ministry.

Study

The Dominican Order has always been known for the love of study, recognizing human intelligence as a gift from God. Whether studying Scripture or the science of cosmology, we seek to know and understand more about our Divine Creator, and to be able to share it with others.

Service

In the classroom or the boardroom, in the soup kitchen, the retreat center, or the parish hall, Dominican Sisters work to bring the Gospel to bear on the critical issues of our day.

Heart Listening

Discerning a call to the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael is a process that involves a woman and the vocation minister, who represents the congregation.
