#justiceOPportunity Thursday—September 3, 2020

It’s #justiceOPpportunity Thursday and we invite you to join in the annual ecumenical Season of Creation which began Tuesday with the World Day for Prayer for Care of Creation and continues through the Feast of St. Francis on Sunday, October 4.

To celebrate this year’s theme, “Jubilee for the Earth,” we are asked to focus on

the integral relationship between rest for the Earth and ecological, economic, social, and political ways of living. The Season of Creation is a wonderful time to reflect on how our lifestyles affect the environment and to make a commitment to more sustainable ways of living.

For this week we suggest that we encourage our local community to reduce its ecological impact–reduce its carbon footprint– by making a concrete lifestyle change commitment in the area of diet. Discuss climate-friendly lifestyle choices to promote sustainable consumption in the following areas:

  1. Reduce red meat consumption
  2. Buy ecological and fair-trade foods from local producers
  3. Reduce food waste
  4. Avoid disposable (single-use) articles
  5. Promote reusable food packaging and items (no plastics or tins)
