#justiceOPportunity Thursday—August 20, 2020

It’s #justiceOPpportunity Thursday and we are working to get out the vote and help others cast their vote as well by ensuring that the US postal service is not compromised.

This week we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and women’s right to vote. We call upon all citizens to exercise this sacred democratic right and privilege. We also are aware of the many obstacles to people’s casting their votes: gerrymandering; barriers in registering to vote, especially against people of color; fewer polling sites; to the dangers posed this year by the coronavirus; and, more recently, to the attempt to slow the delivery of mail.  And so, we say: vote and help others to cast their votes. One way to help is to save the United States Postal Service!

ACTION ALERT! Call your Representative and Senators and voice your opposition to the new dictates that are affecting the postal service. Tell them to restore mailboxes that have been removed, to allow overtime for postal workers, to reinstall letter sorting machines, and to include funding in the new the measure brought forth by House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), called the Delivering for America Act so as not to:

  • harm people who rely on medicines, checks, paying bills, and other items routinely sent via USPS;
  • slow down the mail;
  • threaten the livelihood of postal workers; and
  • adversely affect our democratic right to vote by mail.

Everyday Epiphanies

Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life…and the world.
