#justiceOPportunity Thursday–May 6, 2021

It’s #justiceOPportunity Thursday and we are inviting you to join us in advocating for urgent immigration legislation.

We need to make sure that the President and Congress know that immigration is an issue that voters care about. The majority of voters support proposals providing citizenship to undocumented immigrants. The time is now for leadership to do everything in their power to ensure permanent relief and protection.

Last month, the Dream and Promise Act and Farm Workforce Modernization Act passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support!  Separately, the Citizenship for Essential Workers Act was introduced in both chambers of Congress. Now, we need Representatives to pass legislation for essential workers and we need Senators to pledge their support for all three critical pieces of legislation as they make their way onto the Senate floor!

Nearly 20% of all essential workers are undocumented immigrants who currently are working to help our nation recover from the devastation caused by the pandemic. These brave Americans need a pathway to citizenship, both for their safety and for the good of the entire country.

If Congress successfully builds a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants, an issue that is supported by a majority of American voters, then our country would see a boost in economic output, in average wages, and increased productivity of labor and capital.

From agriculture to healthcare and every industry in between, undocumented workers have risen to the occasion and helped their friends, family, and neighbors throughout the COVD-19 pandemic — sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice by putting their safety, health, and lives ahead of their fellow Americans in need.

Our country cannot reasonably deny millions of essential immigrant workers the opportunity to live free from the fear of deportation in the country they have helped rebuild from the impact of the pandemic.

  • Take Action Now:  Make 3 phone calls.  Dial the Capitol number 202-224-3121 and ask for your Representative and two Senators. (see script below)
  1. Representative:

Hello, my name is [SAY YOUR NAME] and I’m calling the Representative to urge (her/him) to support legislation that builds a path to citizenship for essential workers like the House did for Dreamers, TPS holders, DED recipients, and farm workers. Millions of undocumented immigrants have worked as essential workers throughout the pandemic recovery — which is why it is so critical Congress build a path to citizenship for them. From farmworkers to doctors, and delivery personnel — these brave immigrants should not be deported from the country they love and are currently helping rebuild. Thank you!

  1. Senators:

Hello, my name is [SAY YOUR NAME] and I’m calling the Senator to urge (her/him) to support legislation that builds a path to citizenship for essential workers, Dreamers, TPS holders, DED recipients, and farm workers. Millions of undocumented immigrants have worked as essential workers throughout the pandemic recovery — which is why it is so critical Congress build a path to citizenship for them.
