#justiceOPportunity Thursday—February 4, 2021
Sr. Judy Lu McDonnell, OP
Ms. Lyn Kirkconnell
It’s #justiceOPportunity Thursday and we would like you to join us in efforts to put an end to MPP (Migrant Protection Protocols).
President Joe Biden signed three major executive orders Tuesday (2/2/21) aimed at reversing former President Donald Trump’s hardline on immigration. Although one of the executive orders included a directive to review the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), much more needs to be done. The MPP agreement authorizes the return to Mexico of asylum seekers entering through Mexico. The MPP program has left tens of thousands of asylum-seekers, most of them Central American, living in poor and dangerous conditions in northern Mexico as they await court hearings to make their cases for protection in the U.S. They are required to wait in this third country for the duration of their U.S. immigration proceedings.
We invite you to sign a letter to President Biden in support of his stated intention to end the MPP agreement. As he is aware, the MPP policy is out of step with historic U.S. practices and needlessly exposes people and families requesting international protection to dangerous and unhealthy conditions.
Join us in the call on President Biden to immediately end the “Stay in Mexico” policy or MPP, which needlessly exposes women, men, children and the elderly requesting international protection to dangerous and unhealthy conditions.
