Root Causes Policy Framework

Grassroots and faith organizations, with the support of faith leaders from Central America, Mexico, and the United States, who believe in the fundamental dignity of each person are conscious of the injustices committed against indigenous peoples and the poor across the region.  Together, they are working to address the deep causes of poverty, violence, and corruption that force people to flee their homes in the region.  Their goal is to fundamentally change the economic, migration, human rights, and development policies in the region, at the same time that they help all families survive this crisis and reconstruct a better, more just and equitable future.

The Root Causes Policy Framework was presented to the Biden Transition Team and will form the basis of a shared policy agenda going forward.

The Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and of Mission San Jose have both signed on to this framework as organizations who believe in the framework as a response to the needs of the people of Central America. The policy framework proposes what the U.S. can do to address the causes of migration from the region.

TAKE ACTION: Now the Root Causes Initiative Steering Committee is inviting all of us to show our individual support for the root causes agenda by signing and sharing this online petition to President Biden:   https://bit.ly/RootCausesPetition.
