A Blessing at St. Joseph’s Medical Center & Honoring Mr. Don Wiley
In late April 2020, many weeks into the coronavirus pandemic, St. Joseph’s Medical Center Stockton staff were able to pause in place hear a special blessing over the PA conferred on all of St. Joseph’s by Stockton’s Bishop Myron Cotta entrusting all —patients, staff, and physicians—to God’s healing care. Bishop Cota ended his blessing by recognizing the 30th anniversary of the arrival of Mr. Don Wiley at St. Joseph’s with these words:
“I am also grateful to be here to commemorate the date, when 30 years ago today, your hospital president Don Wiley, joined the St Joseph’s Medical Center family. Mr. Wiley has provided visionary leadership in the critical changes that have made St. Joseph’s the wonderful health care institution that it is today. Don, I know everyone at St. Joseph’s joins me as I say thank you and offer my congratulations and gratitude for these 30 years.”
Vice President for Mission Integration, Sr. Abby Newton, OP joined in the Bishop’s well wishes, “Now President and CEO, Mr. Wiley has provided visionary leadership in critical changes at St. Joseph’s. Milestones during his career include affiliation with CHW, the evolution to Dignity Health, the partnership with Kaiser, the institution of Graduate Medical Education, and the transition to CommonSpirit Health. In all this, he has been a trusted leader here at St. Joseph’s as well as the community we call home. As Mr. Wiley walked through the lobby and down the hallway to his office, he was greeted with warm and fervent congratulations (with adequate social distancing) from those who were able to gather. And I, for one, are very proud that we were able to pull off this tribute as a surprise!”
