SUMMARY:Gather@Grand: Abel and Cain: Repentance\, Repair\, Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:What: Opportunity to engage deeply with the Jewish and Christian processes of repentance\, repair\, and reconciliation in situations where significant wrong has occurred—whether between individuals or between or among larger groups of people. Jewish scholar Moses Maimonides (12th century) will guide us with his insights. \nWho: There are two ways for anyone to participate: more active\, by being part of a small group who meets in person\, discusses and strategizes issues together online\, and is recorded; less active\, by watching the group (live or the later recording) and implementing insights on their own. \nHow: We will read\, study\, and discuss Danya Ruttenberg’s On Repentance and Repair: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World (Boston: Beacon Press\, 2022)\, which explores various situations (smaller to larger\, private to public\, past to recent) where human beings have inflicted and suffered serious wrong at each other’s hands; we will also investigate ways in which amends and healing can happen—or may not. The small “live” group gathered for the sessions will engage together and share insights\, recorded for those who wish to use them “off-line.” \nWhy: to manage past injustices and hurts we have sustained and inflicted in hopes of assisting the healing process. Old wrongs consume a lot of energy\, needlessly. \nDates: Sept. 7\, 21; Oct. 5\, 19; Nov. 2\, 16\, 30\, 2026 \nFormat: active\, in-person\, small-group participation. \nZoom is offered to observe the class live (no interaction); or watch a recording on your own for quiet reflection. \nLocation: Dominican Sisters of San Rafael\, 1520 Grand Ave.\, Administration Building Large Conference Room\, San Rafael\, CA 94901 & Virtual \nOrganizer: Sr. Barbara Green\, OP \n\nRegistration link for Mon. SUMMARY:St. Phoebe: A Prayer Gathering
DESCRIPTION:A Gather@Grand event organized by Sr. Patricia Bruno\, OP in conjunction with Discerning Deacons! \nWe celebrate the lives of many women and men saints from diverse walks of life. St. Phoebe is one of them. \nSt. Paul introduces us to Phoebe in the Acts of the Apostles (Rom 16:1-16) as the Deacon who brought Paul’s letter to the Christian Community in Rome. Her legacy offers us a beautiful\, practical invitation into conversation on how women’s leadership in the early church shines a light on our continued call to leadership and ministry in the world today. \nWe invite you to celebrate and learn about St. Phoebe at our presentation and conversation on Saturday\, Sept 12 from 1- 3 pm at the Dominican Sisters Gathering Space\, 1520 Grand Ave\, San Rafael. We will engage the Church’s Synod process of study\, attentive listening\, and respectful conversation. \nThis program is offered by Shannon Kozubik in partnership with Discerning Deacons and Sr. Patricia Bruno of the Dominican Sisters. \nPlease contact me\, Shannon\, if you have any questions. To register\, RSVP with this link: https://tinyurl.com/phoebeforum\nor by emailing shannon@kozubik.com

SUMMARY:Gather@Grand—Befriending Trees: An Exploration
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nOur Befriending Trees program continues during this Season of Creation. We will take time to understand the costs and benefits of different types of trees\, become familiar with Native and Non-Native trees\, and identify invasive species. We may even discover that there are trees that thrive specifically in our Marin environment. \nSr. Margaret Diener\, OP\, will lead the session and bring resources to deepen our understanding. We will have a chance to revisit the variety of trees on the Dominican Sisters property as well as consider those plantings in our own backyards. Hope you can join us! \nREGISTER
