"The Sisters were pleased with the kindly treatment and generous response which they received from the good people from the start."
- from a California newspaper of the late 1800s
Since 1850 the mission of the Dominican Sisters has been expressed through their faith in God's call -- and with the unfailingly generous support of thousands of good people. Families, friends, students, patients, co-workers -- so many gifts from those who wanted to contribute to the Sisters and to those they served.
In the congregational archives in San Rafael, one can read moving accounts of the Sisters in the 1800s,
walking or riding horses -- in Benicia, in Stockton, in San Francisco, and in other places in California and Nevada -- going from door to door asking for support. They responded lovingly and generously.
The Dominican Sisters of San Rafael have always been appreciative of the special relationship they have had with their benefactors for 150 years.
