Getting Acquainted

The first step to investigating life as a Dominican Sisters of San Rafael is Getting Acquainted. There are a variety of ways to do this.

  • Visit one of our convents for an evening and share prayer, conversation and a meal. By getting to know us you may discover whether or not this way of life is a “fit.”
  • Attend our celebrations, ceremonies, and events. By joining us to celebrate, to pray, or to study, you will have an opportunity to witness the joy of our commitment to the Dominican life.
  • Stay with us for a few days at one of our convents. By sharing a real week in real time you can experience what our daily life of prayer, ministry and community is like.

In addition, we periodically offer retreats and days of prayer, which can assist you in discerning your call. Some of these events are scheduled (on our calendar – home page), and they can also be arranged to work with your calendar. If you are considering religious life, we encourage you to be in regular contact with the Vocation Minister. Getting acquainted takes time (6 months to a year), and it is important to take your time so that you are able to listen deeply to God’s word in your life, to learn more about our charism, and to develop relationships with the sisters.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the process of becoming a sister, please contact Sister Carla Kovack, Director of Vocation Ministries by email at
